There has been a mushrooming growth in the number of colleges in India imparting higher education since independence. But, the quality of these institutions in terms of infrastructure, core facilities, teaching-learning environment etc., leaves much to be desired. These lacunae are seen not only in rural colleges but also in the urban areas. This, probably is the most important reason for the decline of quality in higher education. In these circumstances, the UGC proposed the formation of Clusters of colleges in order to develop a symbiotic relationship between the colleges. This scheme is aimed as an academic and communication bridge, to achieve overall excellence. The RTMNU identified our college as one of the lead colleges of the university and invited us to form a cluster of colleges in April 2006.

We formed a cluster of colleges called “Indradhanu”, under the leadership of our college in 2006 with six colleges as members. Today Indradhanu cluster of colleges has ten colleges as members, namely, G.S. College of Commerce and Economics, Nagpur; Shri M. Mohota College of Science, Nagpur; Smt. Binzani Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur; Sri Pandarinatha Arts and Commerce College, Narkhed (Rural); Yashoda Girls Arts and Commerce College, Nagpur; Nikalas Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur; Rajkumar Kewalramani Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur; Centre Point College, Nagpur, R. S. Mundle Dharampeth Arts and Commerce College, Nagpur and S. B. City College, Nagpur.

The activities of the cluster include infrastructural, academic and co-curricular development in colleges, collaborative research work, organizing seminars/conferences/workshops involving teachers and staff of member colleges, organizing sports and extra curricular activities within the cluster etc. Under the banner of Indradhanu, many curricular, co-curricular activities, workshops, sports and games for teachers and students have been conducted. The faculty visits between the member colleges helps in sharing of best practices amongst the members of the cluster.

A Student Chapter of the Indradhanu Cluster of Colleges has also been formed with the goal of making it a student centric activity. Under the student chapter, student initiated activities are conducted. Upto five student ambassadors are nominated by the member colleges for the student chapter, who then work for the progress of the cluster.
The principal of the lead college, Dr. Shyamala Nair is the Coordinator of the cluster. She is assisted by a committee, whose convenor is Dr. D. Sridevi, in planning and conducting all the activities of the cluster. Each member college also has its own coordinator for smooth conduct of activities.
